STIHL BRA 500 or BRA 600: compare two-pack backpack blowers

Same two-battery backpack premise; different output ceiling

STIHL lists BRA 500 Unit Only (BA070115901US) and BRA 600 Unit Only (BA070115911US) as separate battery backpack blowers. Neither exact package includes a battery or charger. The shared owner’s manual says both models require two STIHL AP-series batteries and recommends a matched pair of the same model. For both, STIHL’s current U.S. product page recommends AP 300.0 P, while the manual’s earlier battery list names AP 300, AP 300 S and AP 500 S. STIHL’s current ALLPRO guidance says the newer tabless packs work in previous AP tools; the exact product page and current battery instructions should guide your selected pair.

Read the output sources as separate descriptions

The manual gives the BRA 500.0 B 32 N, 243 mph maximum / 203 mph average velocity and 847 CFM with the blower unit; it gives BRA 600.0 B 35 N, 252 mph maximum / 212 mph average and 882 CFM with the blower unit. Its alternative airflow lines say 998 and 1,038 CFM “without blowing unit.” The 2025 STIHL catalog’s detailed at-nozzle table instead lists 735.8 and 789 CFM, 192.3 and 246.1 mph, and 31.5 and 34 N. Those are not identical published measurements. The table above uses the catalog’s explicit at-nozzle CFM column and manual force figure because the finder fields are defined around those respective descriptions. Do not compare the two CFM bases as if a model delivered both simultaneously, and do not present them as independent lab results.

The catalog summary and product page agree with the manual’s rounded 32-N BRA 500 and 35-N BRA 600 force descriptions. The current AP chart estimates 19 and 18 minutes, respectively, using two AP 500 S batteries; the catalog’s older BRA 600 entry says 17 minutes. Manufacturer run times vary by application, and the chart does not give a BRA runtime on the current product page’s recommended AP 300.0 P pair. That combination is not a license to reuse the AP 500 S estimate. Both bodies weigh about 22 pounds before the two batteries are added, and no exact complete carry weight is published in the sources reviewed.

Which one fits the work plan?

Choose the BRA 500 on paper if 32 N is sufficient and a paired AP battery plan with the longer current chart estimate matters more than the BRA 600’s added force. Choose the BRA 600 if the 35-N manual maximum is genuinely useful for heavier debris and you accept the same backpack body with a slightly shorter estimate. This is a narrow trade: a three-newton increase is not a substitute for checking local noise restrictions, the debris surface, battery rotation or the wearer’s ability to handle the fully loaded harness.

For occasional cleanup around a short walk and patio, these large professional-oriented backpack bodies may be more equipment than you need. A smaller eligible handheld such as the EGO LB7654 changes both carrying style and battery platform; the eligible EGO LB6002 battery backpack family keeps backpack support but stays in a lower airflow class and includes a battery kit. Neither uses STIHL packs. If one in-box battery, a charger or a confirmed full carry weight is essential, reject both Unit Only configurations rather than treating the recommended battery as bundled.

The BRA 500 and BRA 600 are shown here as technical references only because model-specific CPSC status has not been established. That boundary is not a recall finding and does not establish that either model is cleared. This comparison is based on the manufacturer’s product pages, catalog, battery chart and original instruction manual, not ownership or hands-on testing.
