Greenworks BLB479 80V 800 CFM blower kit review

A U.S. Greenworks 80V handheld blower kit listed at 800 CFM and 200 MPH with one 4.0 Ah battery, charger, Exo-Flex strap and snap-on nozzle. The exact package page and manual do not establish ready-to-use weight or a numeric sound level.

This is the new 2439602 kit. The BLB479 open-box and renewed listings are separate condition/warranty variants; neither has the new kit's four-year limited coverage.

A useful fit for

A homeowner who wants a handheld battery blower with a high published airflow ceiling and one battery plus charger in the box. The BLB479 offers trigger adjustment, cruise control and temporary Turbo; its exact page's weight basis and sound level are unresolved, and it cannot collect leaves.

The main tradeoff

The new kit's 4.0 Ah pack and charger are convenient but the advertised up-to-60-minute runtime has no disclosed setting/test basis. Turbo uses more battery. The page gives a 10-lb weight with no basis alongside under-10-lb-with-battery marketing, so strict carry-weight filters should not accept it. Open-box and renewed SKUs share the model but have distinct condition and 90-day coverage.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you need the new BLB479 package to include its own 80V battery and charger?

Greenworks identifies SKU 2439602 as the new BLB479 kit with one 80V 4.0 Ah battery and a charger. The 2439602-OB and 2439602-RC rows are distinct open-box/renewed listings with different condition and 90-day warranty terms; they are not the standard new kit.

Would a handheld blower with trigger control, cruise control, Turbo and an included strap suit your cleanup?

The BLB479 page lists a variable-speed trigger, cruise control, a Turbo button and an Exo-Flex strap. These are controls and carrying accessory features; they do not establish a weight basis or quiet-use guarantee.

Explore this need in the finder →
Are you moving debris rather than requiring vacuum collection?

BLB479 is a blower-only handheld. Its 800 CFM listing does not turn it into a vacuum/mulcher or provide a collection bag; choose a model whose exact package documents those functions if gathering leaves is essential.

Is a verified ready-to-use weight of 10 lb or less essential?

The exact product page lists Product Weight as 10 lb but does not state the basis, and nearby copy says less than 10 lb with the battery. The manual supplies no weight. The BLB479 cannot meet a strict operating-weight ceiling on this evidence because complete carry weight is unknown.

What the BLB479 kit actually includes

Greenworks identifies BLB479 / SKU 2439602 as an 80V handheld cordless blower rated at up to 800 CFM and 200 mph. The new-in-box package pairs the blower with one 80V 4.0 Ah battery and a charger; Greenworks also lists an Exo-Flex strap, a snap-on nozzle and the owner’s manual. This is a useful distinction from the related 2439602-OB and 2439602-RC listings: they use the same BLB479 model name and describe the same 4 Ah kit, but their condition and warranty terms differ.

High published airflow, with controls for dialing it back

The 800-CFM and 200-mph figures are Greenworks specifications, not a prediction of how quickly your own lawn or driveway will clear. The page describes a concentrator-nozzle feature and the package includes a snap-on nozzle, but the box list does not identify the included nozzle’s shape. Do not treat the feature description as confirmation that a specific optional nozzle is in the kit.

Its trigger varies airflow, a cruise-control lever can hold a selected setting, and a separate Turbo button temporarily raises airflow. Use a manageable setting for ordinary dry leaves and reserve Turbo for stubborn patches. The BLB479 manual specifically warns that Turbo uses the battery faster. The manufacturer advertises up to 60 minutes of runtime, but does not attach that maximum to a stated setting, debris load or test procedure in the page content reviewed here. Treat it as a best-case manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed continuous session.

Battery kit versus empty-tool shopping

The included 4.0 Ah pack and charger make SKU 2439602 a ready-to-start package rather than a tool-only purchase. Greenworks says its removable 80V battery fits more than 75 tools in that voltage family; the manual lists Greenworks BAB-series batteries and CAB-series chargers. Do not assume 40V or 60V packs are interchangeable. If you need only the blower body, look for a verified bare-tool SKU instead of assuming this kit has a tool-only switch.

The page says the included charger takes about 120 minutes for a full charge. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a promise for every battery temperature or charge state. One 4 Ah pack is a meaningful package attribute, but capacity alone does not determine runtime; the selected airflow, repeated Turbo use, battery condition and workload all matter. For a large property or a long cleanup, consider whether a second compatible pack is already in your shed or whether a backpack arrangement better suits the time and carrying demands.

Weight and noise need a little care

Greenworks’ specifications table lists “Product Weight” as 10 lb, while nearby marketing text says the blower weighs less than 10 lb with the battery. Neither statement explains the measurement basis, and the linked manual’s technical-data table gives no weight. I do not treat 10 lb as a verified bare-tool or complete carry weight. If a strict lifting limit matters, ask Greenworks for the exact loaded figure. The ambiguity matters more for repeated handheld work than for a backpack model.

Greenworks advertises QUIETFORCE technology and “low noise,” but the exact product page and manual do not provide a numeric sound-pressure rating at 50 feet. The manual calls for hearing and eye protection, a 50-foot separation from bystanders, and no use in rain or moist conditions. It describes outdoor domestic use, not commercial operation. Battery power does not make the blower silent or remove the need for protective equipment.

Where it fits—and where it does not

BLB479 is a blower-only handheld: the reviewed package has no leaf-vacuum, mulching or collection-bag mode, and it does not include a string trimmer. If collecting leaves is essential, compare a true blower-vac kit such as the Greenworks BL40L511 or EGO LV5005, whose separate intake and bag arrangements bring different bulk and handling tradeoffs. If you want the same brand’s backpack format, Greenworks BLB492 is a different 80V package: its product page lists a lower 690-CFM maximum and two 4 Ah batteries, while its manual and product page disagree about whether two fitted batteries operate at once. It is not a heavier-body version of this handheld; its carrying system and unresolved battery-port language make it a separate decision.

The BLB479 is a sensible candidate for a homeowner who wants strong published airflow, a battery and charger in the box, and adjustable controls without a gasoline engine. It is less suitable if you need confirmed light ready-to-use weight, a measured low-noise rating, vacuum collection, a known in-box nozzle shape or a commercially rated machine. Greenworks currently lists the standard SKU 2439602 with an Add to Cart path. Its 2439602-OB open-box listing says the product is new and unused but repacked because the original box was damaged, and it gives that package a 90-day tool-and-battery warranty. The 2439602-RC renewed listing describes a used, tested unit with possible cosmetic wear, also with a 90-day warranty; the page reviewed currently says sold out. Those are not equivalent warranty or condition choices, so do not let the shared BLB479 name blur them.

Bottom line

Choose the 2439602 new kit when one included 80V 4 Ah battery, a charger and a handheld 800-CFM maximum meet your actual cleanup plan. Its trigger, cruise control and temporary Turbo give more control over airflow than a single-speed tool, but maximum output will use battery more quickly and the advertised runtime is not tied to a disclosed test condition. Keep the weight basis open, do not mistake a snap-on nozzle for a named nozzle type, and choose another model if leaf collection, backpack carrying or commercial use is essential.
