The main tradeoff

No AP 300 S or charger is included. The 15.7-lb body-only figure excludes batteries; the product page’s 24-lb two-pack figure is not a complete weight for this Unit Only SKU. Runtime remains unknown.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does this BRA 280 Unit Only package include the AP battery and charger?

No. The exact SKU is tool-only. An eligible EGO LB6000 is a battery backpack tool-only alternative, but it uses another platform and does not share the BRA operating plan.

What changes if the published 26-N force floor is non-negotiable but carry style can change?

The BRA 280 manual lists 26 N, but this reference-only unit cannot enter a purchase shortlist. EGO LB7654 is an eligible handheld alternative at 26 N; EGO LB8803-2 exceeds the floor at 30 N with a different two-battery kit.

Can a 15-pound bare-body maximum coexist with backpack carry?

No for this BRA: the manual lists 15.7 lb for the HMI-equipped body. A 12.5-lb EGO LB6000 backpack body passes that lower ceiling, though the installed mass and battery system differ.

A heavier-feature backpack body, but no battery or charger

The BRA 280 Unit Only SKU is BA110115921US. STIHL explicitly describes this package as tool-only without battery and charger. Its U.S. page recommends AP 300.0 P and identifies sequential discharge; the shared manual for BRA 280.0 and BRA 280.0 B says AP 300 S is the minimum battery for unrestricted use. The page's HMI Premium Plus control and variable-length tube correspond to the .0 B features in the manual. This distinction is helpful when comparing the model identity, but the retail SKU is still labeled BRA 280, not an independent BRA 280.0 B box.

For the .0 B version the owner manual gives a 15.7-pound blower-body weight with no battery installed. STIHL's product page says the model weighs 24 pounds with two AP 300 S batteries. Neither figure says what BA110115921US weighs as a complete, separately assembled package; that SKU includes no batteries, and full carry weight varies with what is added. The page's two-battery, 24-pound statement is useful context for the family, not a weight assigned to the Unit Only carton.

Performance figures in the shared owner manual are 26 N maximum force, 192 mph maximum and 161 mph average velocity. The manual lists 571 CFM with the blower unit and 792 CFM “without blowing unit.” Use the assembled-blower number for a threshold question. Manufacturer CFM and speed values are separate specifications, not a direct clearing test. The current AP System runtime table does not give the BRA 280 a runtime, so there is no sound basis here for promising a particular number of minutes from an AP 300 S or AP 300.0 P pack.

The practical appeal is in the controls, not just the CFM

The HMI version gives the operator a handle-mounted power-level selector and a battery-state readout, with power hold and a Bluetooth-connected interface. It also has an adjustable blower tube. These details can matter when more than one person uses a machine or when the operator repeatedly changes working position. STIHL's page also describes Boost; the manual cautions that sustained Boost reduces battery runtime. If you don't need an on-tool display or a variable-length tube, a simpler backpack may be easier to justify. If you want to move debris by vacuum and mulch it, this is the wrong tool type entirely.

Because this is Unit Only, the total is not just the body. Plan for a compatible AP battery and charger at minimum, and ask STIHL whether your preferred pair is supported for the sequential operating arrangement described on the page. The manual gives a minimum battery class; the exact U.S. product page gives its current recommendation. The Set version BA110115951US is the different package: it includes two AP 300 S packs and an AL 301 charger. Its page claims 24 pounds with those two packs, while this Unit Only SKU has none of them.

The owner's manual limits use to leaves, grass and similar material on outdoor surfaces, and its instructions matter at this output: use eye and hearing protection, secure clothing and hair, maintain a clear intake, keep people 50 feet away and do not aim at people, animals or windows. Remove the battery before carrying, cleaning or storing the blower; store it dry and indoors. The manual says to fit the harness over both shoulders and practice rapid removal before starting.

How the finder should treat the trade-offs

Requiring a backpack and a tool-only battery package can surface this SKU as a technical reference; requiring a charger in the same package should instead select an eligible kit, such as the EGO LB6002, if a different brand's battery system is acceptable. Requiring 26 N is met by the BRA 280's manual figure, but a reference-only model cannot become a purchase recommendation just because it satisfies a number. EGO's handheld LB7654 publishes 26 N and is currently eligible, but it is a handheld platform; it is not an interchangeable substitute for the BRA harness or AP batteries. A strict 15-pound bare-body limit excludes the BRA 280's 15.7-pound manual figure before the missing battery is considered.

The archived exact U.S. page marked this unit-only offer out of stock. Model/SKU-specific CPSC status is unresolved in the recorded research, so the page remains a technical reference and is excluded from buying matches. That is not evidence of a recall or a no-recall determination. Confirm current supply, exact battery compatibility and user instructions with STIHL before considering the machine. This assessment relies on STIHL's product page and owner manual; it does not claim ownership or hands-on performance.
