A useful fit for

A gasoline handheld blower/vacuum-shredder configuration for a household comparing a documented 45 L bag and two separate operating modes; the exact model remains reference-only until its exact safety status is established.

The main tradeoff

Compared with the SH 86 C-E, this exact configuration differs in published output, dry vacuum-mode mass, tank size and claimed reduction ratio. Neither product-page suction CFM nor the manual’s blower CFM is a measured yard-speed result. Exact safety status unresolved; not eligible for purchase matching.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

If a 45 L bagged shredder vac is appealing but not essential, can an eligible 40 L blower/vacuum kit meet the real collection need instead of SH 56?

Only if 40 L is actually enough and battery power is acceptable. EGO LV5000 and LV5005 are reviewed eligible 40 L blower/vacuum alternatives; this exact gas reference model remains excluded from purchases. If 45 L is an essential minimum, the comparison must return no eligible match.

Is gasoline essential for bagged leaf collection, or can you move to a battery platform instead of the SH 56 fuel routine?

A gas-only request plus bagged collection has no eligible reviewed purchase result here; the gas SH configurations are technical references only. If battery is acceptable and 40 L is enough, the eligible EGO LV5000/LV5005 alternatives qualify but use a different power system and package.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can an eligible battery leaf-vacuum body fit a 13.5 lb limit before battery and nozzle, or must the finder enforce the 11.5 lb SH vacuum-mode figure?

The SH is listed at 11.5 lb without refuelling, but remains reference-only and that number does not include fuel or collected material. Both eligible EGO LV vacuum-mode bodies are listed at 13.45 lb before battery and nozzle; a 13.5 lb body-only limit admits those alternatives, while a 11.5 lb cap leaves no eligible 40 L option.

A bagged vacuum that can also blow

The exact U.S. configuration is STIHL SH 56 C-E, part 42410110934US. It is a gasoline handheld vacuum shredder that can be converted to blower mode, not merely a blower with a collection bag. The suction tube and catcher bag collect dry leaves and similar loose debris; a different tube setup is used to blow. If you want to leave leaves in a windrow or move them off a walk, the blower function is useful. If bagged pickup and volume reduction are essential, the SH 56 has the relevant second operating plan. The two modes are not simultaneous, and changing attachments is part of the job rather than an invisible convenience.

What the exact page and manual establish

STIHL lists a 27.2 cc two-stroke engine and 0.7 kW output for the SH 56. Its product page gives 11.5 pounds without refueling, 417.9 cubic feet per minute of air throughput in suction mode, an 11.9-gallon collection bag (about 45 liters), and a 1:10 chaff ratio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or a promise that every pile compresses by exactly ten-to-one. The shared 2024 BG 56/66/86 and SH 56/86 instruction manual declares the exact SH 56 C-E variant and gives 5.2 kg dry vacuum-mode weight, 15 N blower force at the round nozzle, and 700 cubic meters per hour of round-nozzle blower airflow. That airflow is about 412 CFM. Keep it separate from the higher 417.9 CFM suction-mode figure: a vacuum-airflow number does not describe blowing performance.

The manual lists maximum round-nozzle air speed of 71 meters per second, about 159 mph; its separate standard blower-mode speed row is lower. The exact U.S. page emphasizes Easy2Start and a manual fuel pump, while the manual identifies the SH 56 control as a stop switch rather than the setting lever used on SH 86. Easy2Start assists a recoil starter; it does not make this an electric-start machine. Published values are useful when comparing source-defined configurations, but they do not predict how quickly your yard will clear or how long a bagging session will take.

Collection changes the handling and the routine

The 45-liter bag is larger than the 40-liter bag on the battery-powered EGO LV5000 and LV5005, but a larger stated capacity does not make the SH 56 an eligible recommendation here. Its exact-model safety status has not been individually established, so this assessment remains a technical reference and the model is excluded from purchase matching. That boundary is not a recall finding and not a no-recall clearance. STIHL also states that the product is not available for purchase or delivery in California.

The 11.5-pound page weight is stated without refueling; the manual’s 5.2 kg figure is dry weight in vacuum configuration. Neither is a loaded working weight with fuel, bagged leaves and attachments. The shoulder strap helps support the bagged setup, but does not eliminate the mass of the machine or its contents. A full bag can add meaningful carried weight, so if you have a strict total carry limit, the published tool figure is not enough to prove the SH 56 fits. Wet or damp material can clog the suction path; use this machine for the manual’s intended dry leaves and lightweight, loose, noncombustible material, not hot debris or anything combustible.

Gas power is a real ownership preference

The SH 56 needs gasoline mixed with two-stroke oil at the manual’s specified 50:1 ratio, safe fueling and storage, and the routine care of a small engine. STIHL recommends fuel with no more than 10 percent ethanol. The 0.54-liter tank is larger than the SH 86’s 0.44-liter tank, but that difference alone does not establish a longer runtime. Fuel use varies with throttle, material, condition and technique. The manual’s measured sound-pressure values are 90 dB(A) in blower mode and 94 dB(A) in suction mode; they are source-reported test values, not a personal measurement. Hearing and eye protection remain important. The manual warns that debris can be thrown and specifies keeping people away from the work area.

How the finder should change the answer

If a 45-liter minimum is essential, or if you require a gas-powered collection machine, the finder should return no purchase-eligible match rather than use this reference-only configuration. If 40 liters is enough and battery power is acceptable, the eligible EGO LV5000 tool-only profile and LV5005 kit are alternatives: both combine blowing with bagged vacuum/mulching, but use EGO’s battery system and have different package contents. LV5005 includes a battery and charger; LV5000 does not. They are not interchangeable with STIHL fuel, do not match its 45-liter bag requirement, and their airflow specifications do not establish equivalent suction or yard speed. Relax a gas preference only if battery operation is genuinely acceptable.

The SH 56 C-E is worth keeping on a comparison list for someone evaluating a compact gas shredder vac with a blower conversion, an included 45-liter bag, Easy2Start and shoulder support. It is a poor fit for a person who wants a simple blower-only tool, avoids fuel handling, needs a documented complete carry weight, works mainly on wet leaves, or requires an eligible purchase recommendation today. Treat collection capacity, dry mass, mode conversion and power source as separate decisions; no single headline specification answers all of them.
