Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this exact package fit a corded, two-speed handheld plan?
Toro identifies the 51585 as a 120 V corded handheld blower with a two-speed switch; it does not need a battery or charger.
Explore this need in the finder →What changes if a 250-CFM minimum is essential?
Toro’s exact page lists 155 CFM maximum, below the questionnaire’s lowest supported 250-CFM floor. If that floor matters, the 51585 cannot satisfy it; without that threshold, it remains a small-task corded option. The number is a manufacturer maximum, not clearing time.
Explore this need in the finder →Must this be a blower-only tool rather than a vacuum/mulcher?
The exact 51585 page and manual describe a blower, not a leaf vacuum or bagging system. Choose a 51619/51621 if collecting leaves is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →A small corded blower with a deliberately simple job
The Toro Power Sweep 51585 is a compact handheld blower built around a household outlet and a two-position speed switch. Toro’s exact U.S. page lists up to 155 CFM and 160 mph. Those are two separate manufacturer maxima, not a test of how quickly the blower clears a particular wet pile. Its useful distinction is that it is light and simple, not that its air-speed figure makes it a stand-in for a larger machine. Toro describes it for sidewalks, decks, driveways and lawn debris—jobs where the user can work in short passes and the lower speed is useful near beds or corners.
The exact specification table lists 4.7 lb, while the product-page overview and one marketing image say 4.6 lb. That is a small but real manufacturer-page inconsistency. Neither number is described as a ready-to-use measurement that includes an extension cord, so this should not be treated as a hard fit for a strict carry-weight ceiling. The source materials do not publish a blowing-force value or a 50-foot sound rating. Toro’s older family table gives 63.5 dBA for this model, but does not state the distance or test method; that does not establish a sound level at the questionnaire’s 50-foot reference.
Two speeds and an outlet define the routine
The manual and current parts listing identify the 51585 as a 120-volt corded electric blower with a seven-amp motor. Its handle switch selects low or high. That arrangement is understandable and quick to use: keep low for confined hardscape or loose leaves close to plantings, then use high for a broader open pass. It does not provide a continuous trigger or dial, so someone who frequently needs fine control between those two states should compare a variable-speed option such as Toro’s PowerJet F700 or the 51619/51621 blower-vac family.
The trade is tethering. The unit needs a suitable polarized outdoor extension cord, and the cord is not listed as a supplied item. Before choosing it, map the route from an exterior receptacle to the farthest cleanup area. The cord can catch on furniture, shrubs or corners, and it constrains how far you can move without relocating the plug. Toro’s manual says to use the appliance outdoors, not on wet surfaces or in rain, and not to pull or carry it by the cord. Unplug by the plug, not by yanking the cable. These instructions are part of the operating plan, not a minor footnote.
It does not collect leaves
The 51585 is blower-only. It has no vacuum tube, collection bag or shredder, so it cannot be recommended when bagging or mulching is essential. If the job is to move leaves to a curb or a collection tarp, that simpler configuration may be welcome: there are fewer attachments to store, and no vacuum bag to empty. If you regularly want to collect leaves, Toro’s 51619 Ultra and 51621 UltraPlus are more relevant corded comparisons. Their blower-mode CFM numbers are not interchangeable with their higher vacuum-mode airflow numbers, and their attachment kits and controls differ.
For a homeowner who specifically prefers cordless use, this model is incompatible with that need. A corded machine can operate as long as power is available, but that does not make it portable across a yard. A battery blower avoids the extension-cord route, while its run time depends on the selected pack and power mode. If you want more listed blower airflow while staying corded, Toro’s F700 51624 is a different tool: 725 CFM and 140 mph are its exact-page maxima, and it is also blower-only. The higher CFM does not independently prove faster clearing on every leaf type.
What the documentation can and cannot tell you
Toro’s product page provides an exact 51585 identity, maximum airflow, air speed, listed weight and two-year warranty statement. The applicable Form 3425-161 Rev B manual covers model 51585 from serial 319000001 upward and explains the blower tube and cord-safe operation. Toro does not publish a job-time estimate, numerical force, nozzle-shape comparison, weather-resistance rating or sound measurement at a stated distance. Do not fill those gaps with claims from a nearby Toro model.
Choose the Power Sweep when you want a light, straightforward corded blower for reachable routine cleanup and a two-speed control is enough. Pass on it if you need leaf collection, a battery-only power source, a continuous speed dial, a verified operating-weight limit or a documented 50-foot sound ceiling. If it fits, confirm the precise model number and extension-cord requirements on the seller’s listing; Toro’s current page directs shoppers to dealers rather than confirming universal online availability.
