Greenworks 40V and 60V handheld blowers: kit or tool only?

Start with the battery platform, then compare the blower

Greenworks’ BLF442 and BL60L02 are both cordless handheld blowers, but they are not alternative packages for one interchangeable battery. The BLF442 is a 40V brushless kit with one 4.0 Ah battery and a charger. The BL60L02 is a 60V brushless tool-only model; its battery and charger are separate purchases. Decide first whether you already own a compatible 40V or 60V battery, or whether you need a complete kit in the same purchase. Greenworks manuals name separate battery and charger families for those voltage platforms, so do not plan to share a pack across them.

Published output: 550 CFM versus 700 CFM

Greenworks publishes up to 550 CFM and 130 mph for the BLF442. The BL60L02 page and linked BLC402 manual publish 700 CFM and 170 mph. If your questionnaire requires at least 550 CFM, both clear that paper threshold; at 551 CFM the BLF442 no longer qualifies, while the 700-CFM listing still does. This is a boundary in manufacturer specifications, not a claim that the 60V model clears a yard a particular percentage faster. CFM describes air volume and mph air speed; neither number alone predicts every surface, leaf condition or technique.

Package completeness changes the comparison

BLF442 makes the simpler first-purchase proposition: the exact kit page lists a 4.0 Ah battery and charger with the blower. Its manual gives up to 20 minutes as Greenworks’ runtime claim with that battery, and the product page lists a 120-minute recharge. Turbo drains the pack faster, according to the manual, so those figures should not be treated as a guaranteed continuous high-output session.

BL60L02 is for someone who has a suitable Greenworks 60V setup or is willing to assemble one separately. Greenworks lists up to 50 minutes on low with a separately purchased 5.0 Ah battery and a 50-minute recharge with a separately purchased rapid charger. Those package conditions matter: BL60L02 itself supplies neither battery nor charger. The page’s included accessories and the manual also document concentrator and flat nozzles plus a shoulder strap; BLF442’s page calls out a concentrator-nozzle feature but its box list does not enumerate nozzle shapes. Do not assume the BLF442 includes the same accessory assortment.

Weight and handling facts are not apples-to-apples

The BLF442 manual lists 4.7 lb without its battery. Its product page separately shows a 5.06-lb “Product Weight” without a clear basis, so that field should not be mistaken for the assembled kit weight. The BL60L02 manual lists 5.3 lb without its battery, while its product page lists a much higher “Product Weight” without a defined basis. Keep the manual figures as bare-tool values and do not use either unexplained page weight as the ready-to-use mass. A heavier battery changes the feel in hand, but these sources do not establish the complete operating weights.

Which makes sense for your routine?

Choose BLF442 when the 40V ecosystem is already in your shed, when a 4-Ah kit is preferable to buying batteries separately, or when its published 550-CFM maximum covers the cleanup you actually need. Its variable trigger and cruise lever allow lower-speed passes; Turbo is available for short demanding spots. Choose BL60L02 when you need a higher published CFM ceiling, already have compatible 60V batteries or want its confirmed nozzle-and-strap package. Budget for the battery and charger if you do not already own them.

Neither machine vacuums, mulches or collects leaves into a bag. For that job, compare a dedicated blower-vac such as Greenworks BL40L511 or EGO LV5005 and check the exact bag, tube and weight arrangement. If a hard weight ceiling matters, use only a clearly defined manual weight basis; an unknown complete-tool weight is not evidence that either package is below your limit. A required numeric sound or blowing-force threshold also needs an exact published rating rather than an inference from the voltage or CFM.
