ECHO PB-755S or PB-760LN? Compare output, sound and controls

ECHO PB-755S or PB-760LN: compare the control, airflow and sound tradeoffs

These are all gasoline backpack blowers built around 63.3 cc two-stroke engines. Their practical differences are the H/T throttle position, published airflow, manufacturer sound rating and how cleanly the official documents agree about weight, tank size and air speed. Start with the work plan you actually want to carry and maintain—not a single headline number.

Pick the suffix around your hand position

Within either family, the H variant places the variable-speed control at the operator’s hip; the T places the trigger/control on the tube. That is a real configuration difference, not a bundle or finish. The PB-755SH is the higher-CFM hip-control option and the PB-755ST is its tube-control counterpart. In the lower-noise family, choose between the PB-760LNH and PB-760LNT the same way. If you steer and change speed repeatedly with your aiming hand, tube control may be more convenient; if you prefer to leave the tube hand focused on direction, hip control may suit you. Neither control position guarantees comfort for every operator, so handle the layout in person where possible.

PB-755S publishes more air volume; PB-760LN carries a lower sound rating

ECHO’s current PB-755S pages list 651 CFM and 233 mph, while the shared PB-755S H/T manual and support table list 653 CFM and 233 mph. For a hard CFM threshold, our profiles use the lower exact-page number rather than treating 653 as settled across sources. ECHO’s PB-760LN pages list 535 CFM and 214 mph. The current 2023 manual agrees on 535 CFM, but gives 210 mph as maximum with pipes and 178 mph as average; ECHO Support assigns the 214 and 178 values to average and maximum respectively. Treat the 760 air-speed labels as unresolved, not as proof that one configuration clears a particular pile faster.

The sound ratings are more consistent: ECHO lists 74 dB(A) at 50 feet for the PB-755S and 65 dB(A) at 50 feet for the PB-760LN, with the current family manuals giving the same figures. This is a standardized distance rating, not sound at the user’s ear, a guarantee of a quiet yard, or confirmation that your municipality allows operation at a given hour. The PB-760LN is the more relevant choice when the manufacturer-listed sound ceiling matters more than the PB-755S’s higher published CFM. For lawn-size calculations or exact cleanup time, neither source provides a fair field test.

Keep the operating plan in view

All four configurations use a two-stroke gas engine. The manufacturer manual describes premixed 50:1 gasoline and oil, 89-octane unleaded fuel, fuel-composition restrictions, recoil starting, a choke and a purge bulb. That may fit a property owner who accepts fuel handling and engine upkeep; it does not fit a no-exhaust or no-premix requirement. These are blower configurations, not vacuum/mulchers with a collection bag. The manual also tells users to select the lowest speed that moves the debris, protect eyes and hearing, keep the stream away from people and pets, and follow its maintenance and hot-surface precautions. The lower sound rating does not remove those instructions.

Do not use a conflicting specification as a firm fit promise

Weight and tank capacity deserve special care. PB-755S product pages state 24.7 lb dry with standard pipes, but the manual lists 25.35 lb for H and 25.13 lb for T, and ECHO Support lists 25.3/25.13 lb without a common pipe basis. The current pages say 62 fl oz for fuel; the manual and support table state 2.0 L / 67.7 fl oz. The PB-760LN pages state 26.5 lb for H and 26.2 lb for T with standard pipes; the current manual lists 22.0/21.6 lb dry without pipes, and the support table lists 24.0/23.8 lb without pipes. These values cannot safely be collapsed into one strict weight or tank-capacity threshold. The 760 manual and page agree on a 68.3-fl-oz tank, but a weight maximum still should not assume that the machine is ready to work with fuel or pipes included.

What to check before buying

Use the dedicated assessments for the PB-755SH, PB-755ST, PB-760LNH and PB-760LNT to compare the exact control arrangement and operating details. The manufacturer links are PB-755SH, PB-755ST, PB-760LNH and PB-760LNT. Match a used or older unit to the serial-specific ECHO manual; the current H/T manuals cover listed groups, but do not by themselves establish the service history or recall repair of an individual machine. Before purchase, confirm the actual model suffix and fitted pipes, then verify the serial, condition, warranty and local operating rules with the seller or an authorized ECHO dealer. No price or local inventory is assumed here.
