STIHL BGA 160 Set or Unit Only?
One blower, two exact cartons
STIHL lists the BGA 160 Set and BGA 160 Unit Only as separate U.S. catalogue entries. The Set is part BA090115910US (manufacturer record 1027666); it includes one AP 300 S battery and one AL 301 charger. Unit Only is part BA090115901US (record 1027665) and comes without either. These are not two different blower motors. The choice changes what reaches your garage and how soon you can start, not the BGA 160's airflow class.
| Package | Included | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| BGA 160 Set — BA090115910US | BGA 160, one AP 300 S battery, one AL 301 charger | You need a known one-battery/one-charger starter setup, and the 9.7 lb published tool-plus-AP300S weight is acceptable. |
| BGA 160 Unit Only — BA090115901US | BGA 160 blower body only; no battery or charger | You have confirmed compatible STIHL battery and charging equipment and do not need a duplicate AP 300 S / AL 301. |
What stays the same
Both exact product pages describe the BGA 160 as an AP/ALLPRO battery handheld for leaves, cuttings, and dirt. The U.S. manual gives the blower a 21 N force rating, 570 CFM airflow, 175 mph maximum air speed, 145 mph average air speed, and 5.7 lb bare weight. STIHL's page lists 83 decibels and IPX4 splash protection. The design has a variable-speed trigger, cruise control to hold a chosen setting, and a Boost function at the end of trigger travel. Use moderate output for controlled cleanup and save Boost for a short difficult patch: STIHL says continuous use at Boost shortens battery runtime.
The AP chart estimates 110 minutes at Level 1 through 15 minutes in Boost with AP 300 S; the estimate varies with application and is not a guaranteed job duration. An AL 301 is estimated to charge that pack to 80 percent in 55 minutes and to full in 80 minutes. The Set contains one battery, so there is no built-in two-pack rotation. The Unit Only owner must select the exact pack and charger separately; manual-approved AP/AR types and STIHL's current ALLPRO/AP description should not be read as universal cross-brand compatibility.
Package decision is only one part of fit
Both profiles are reference-only here because exact model-specific CPSC status has not been established; neither is a purchase recommendation, and that unresolved status is not a recall finding. For an eligible alternative with a similar handheld orientation, the EGO LB6504 has manufacturer-listed 650 CFM and 21 N, but its battery system is not compatible with STIHL. If leaf collection is essential, compare an actual vacuum/mulcher such as the EGO LV5005 instead of expecting either BGA 160 package to collect or bag leaves.
Choose Set when the included AP battery and charger are needed; choose Unit Only only after checking that existing equipment works with this blower. A requirement for two in-box batteries rules out the Set, and requiring a charger rules out Unit Only. A 22 N minimum excludes both, as does a strict sub-9 lb assembled-weight cap when using the published 9.7 lb AP 300 S setup. A need for bagged mulching excludes the entire BGA 160 family.
